The Keeping Teens Safe organization was founded by Troy and Lori Ostrowski of Midland, Michigan. They realized that, while their teenagers passed driver's training and got their licenses, they had a lot more to learn about driving such as, how to handle driving in heavy traffic and construction zones, night driving, extreme weather, back-road driving, local driving, highway driving and so on.
While driver education programs teach the rules of driving, nothing can replace experience. We realized that our teens drive differently when we, their parents or guardians, are with them than they do when they are driving alone or with friends. Teens today have the added distractions of cell phones and text messaging while driving, as well as the usual distractions of friends and loud music. Keeping Teens Safe is a community-wide program to help parents monitor their teen driver when they are not able to be in the car with them.
This program is not about a lack of trust in our teen drivers, it is about a lack of experience. Our goal is to create better and safer drivers so that we can change some of the startling statistics that plague teenage drivers. It is not just our teens that we want to be safe, we also want the rest of the drivers on the road with our teens to be safe.
If you have further questions, please contact us. We would be happy to share more details as to why we are so passionate about this program.
